Water bottles can be brought into school, especially in the summer months. These should be clearly labelled with the child's name and class. No fruit drinks or water with ice should be brought in. All classrooms have a drinking water tap installed.
How often will homework be set?
At least one piece of homework will be set most nights, please read your child's diary regularly as their diary is a means for communication between yourselves and your child's teacher. It will also allow you to keep a record of homework set and when it is due. Diaries should be signed by a parent at least once each week.
D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) diaries are for children, teachers and yourselves to keep a record of when they have read either by themselves or to an adult. We would encourage you to read as often as possible with your child and record their progress in this book.
How do Parent Consultations work?
Parent consultations are held weekly, normally on a Tuesday or Wednesday, straight after school. The teacher or the parent may request an appointment and this ensures parents are kept up to date with their child's progress.
Parents also receive termly reports. If teachers are available, they are perfectly willing to answer questions either between 8.15 - 8.30 or after 3pm. Other queries or questions can be sent in via letter, direct to the school office or through the homework diary.
Can my child bring a football into school?
Unlike Infant school, we do not allow children to bring their own footballs into school. Each class is provided with their own football. Other playtime equipment is also provided.
Children are allowed to change into their trainers for playtime.
Do I need to label everything?
We know that naming all your child's possessions is time consuming and more than a little boring, however, in the summer time especially when we have fifteen sweatshirts left on the field, it does make life a lot easier for us and less expensive for you. Children can get quite upset if they feel that an item belongs to them, but are unable to prove it. Named property is returned directly to the child concerned.
At what time can my child go into school in the mornings?
Children are able to go into class from 8.30am. Registration is at 8:40am. This allows the children 10 minutes each morning to settle before lessons start.
We strongly encourage parents to drop their children off in the morning and allow them to make their own way into school. For our younger children this may seem a little harsh at first but this will very quickly become routine for them.
Can my child wear tracksuits for outdoor games?
In Junior School, your child will take part in indoor P.E. and also outdoor games. In the winter months they should have a tracksuit top or another jumper and tracksuit bottoms for wearing outside. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly named.
